In a World Full of Scoffers, Be a Light Bearer

The Internet really made our way of communication easier and faster. Today, spreading the news throughout the world is only one click away. It is easier to fetch news today than it was before the 20th century. It is more convenient now to connect to people all across the globe, thanks to the social media.

However, the more it becomes faster for stories to reach hundreds or thousands of viewers, the easier it is now to spread rumors or false messages through a wide audience as well. The sad part about it, people nowadays easily dive into what they read on the internet without even checking its genuineness or validity.

False rumors like this are often created to spark arguments between two parties with different views on a certain issue and to tell you frankly, they are successful all the time. Most wars often start because of two parties arguing with different ideologies. When they can no longer resolve the issue, they resort to physical violence which usually doesn’t end well.

This is also probably one of the reasons why there are a lot of scoffers and mockers in the world. They think that they already know better than the others and when their argument becomes trashed or overruled, they resort to sarcasm and hate.

Called to Become Light Bearers

As Christians, we are called to become different among the rest of the world. In the Scriptures, Peter said that we are a “chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a peculiar people…” We are God’s appointed people. We are supposedly Christ’s bearer of Good News.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light;

1 Peter 2:9

What God desires for each one of us is to shine as lights in the world. The world is now filled with hatred, enmity, envy, and chaos and God does not desire His children to take part in making the existing conditions worse. The world is now covered in darkness, and our duty is to become bearers of good news – bearers of the Light.

Christ said to His followers “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16). Our duty is to give the light of truth that we once received to the people. We are to be God’s instrument to call these people out of the darkness, and not to join them in it.

But how can we become effective light bearers? Sister Ellen G. White said,

Carry light wherever you go; show that you have strength of purpose, that you are not a person of indecision, easily swayed by the persuasions of evil associates. Do not yield a ready assent to the suggestions of those who dishonor God, but rather seek to reform, reclaim, and rescue souls from evil.

— Messages to Young People p. 23

In order to become effective light bearers, we must always carry the light wherever we go and whatever we do. What good is a light that is put in the darkness if it is always hidden or turned off? In all of our endeavors, we must always seek to become Christ-like so that our light will naturally radiate in the darkness.

There is a great calling for each one of us who receives the light to impart this light to others so they may be able to receive the light of truth as well. Do not be the one spreading hate and animosity among the people. The world already has its fair share of scoffers and mockers, false rumors spreaders, and war-igniting ideologists. Do not be the one among them. Let your light shine. Be God’s light bearer and you will be amazed at how God’s light, when imparted upon others, changes the hateful attitude that this world has cultivated upon us.

  1. We really must pray because our world is so divided, and even Christian’s are being so caught up that their distracted by what the enemy is doing that they are losing focus on what is important.
